A Snapshot of Interests - Nov 2020
The youth who join self-directed learning centres are like a microcosm of the world. Diverse interests, identities, and beliefs are reflected in the projects they take on.
Currently, the youth at our centre work on a variety of interests. Projects youth have expressed interest in or are engaged in are:
Anime, Dungeons and Dragons, learning languages (Japanese, ASL), youtube creation and creators, podcasting, piano, drumming and guitar learning, Among Us playing.
Watercolour painting, real-life portrait drawing, digital art, graphic arts, poster and banner creation. Sewing and creating winter accessories, textile arts.
Creative writing, book discussions, TV show discussions and opinions.
Courses youth are taking independently: D&D, art classes, physics, psychology, chemistry, history, math, writing.
Outdoor adventuring, fire making, orienteering, ocean life study.
Social Justice issues such as lgbtq+ rights, food scarcity, volunteering opportunities.
The only limits in the centre are our own minds. If someone has the idea, we will work to make it happen and reach out to people who may know how to make it happen.
