Steps to join us

Finding the right learning environment for a young person is an important decision.

Many families come to Passages after traditional school has stopped working for their child. They may be looking for a place where their child can feel safe, rebuild confidence, and reconnect with learning.

The best way to explore whether Passages might be a good fit is to learn about our approach and experience the community.

Passages is a place to be experienced!

Attend an Information Session

Our virtual information sessions are a great first step for parents and caregivers.

During the session you will learn about:

• self-directed learning and democratic education
• how Passages works day to day
• who tends to thrive in this environment
• how mentoring and community support learners

You will also have the opportunity to ask questions.

Visit the Centre (Tour)

Families are welcome to visit Passages and see the space in person.

A tour allows you and your young person to:

• see the learning environment
• meet staff and learners
• get a feel for the community
• ask questions about daily life at Passages

Tours are relaxed and informal and simply give families a chance to see the space and ask questions.

Typically, tours are on Mondays and Tuesdays from 1:30-2:30pm; however, we can accommodate other times to match your schedule.

Book a Discovery Week

Young people interested in joining Passages attend a Discovery Week to experience the centre firsthand.

During Discovery Week, learners may:

• join classes and workshops
• work on personal projects
• explore their interests
• connect with other learners
• take part in daily community life

Discovery Week helps both the young person and the family decide if Passages feels like a good fit.

The cost for Discovery Week is $200 for the week.

Deciding Together

After Discovery Week, we connect with the learner and their family to reflect on the experience and decide together whether Passages feels like the right fit.
